This intimate portrait follows Alaa Hathleen, a young Palestinian soccer player and physical therapist from the Bedouin community of Umm Al Kheir in Masafer Yatta, in the occupied West Bank. Told entirely through cellphone footage shot by Alaa and his relatives, the film offers a first-person account of daily life under occupation. Alaa’s village sits just meters from Israeli settlers, and he and his family live under constant military presence and surveillance. They face home demolitions, settler attacks, and severe movement restrictions that prevent access to work, education, and basic services. Though trained as a physical therapist, Alaa is unable to practice — blocked from reaching the city by the Israeli military.
We witness his home being destroyed, his efforts to support his large family, and his determination to keep playing soccer despite it all. The film captures both the physical violence of occupation and the psychological toll of living with constant uncertainty.
Since No Other Land brought international attention to Masafer Yatta, violence in the region has only escalated. In July 2025, the Israeli Knesset passed a resolution supporting the annexation of the West Bank — a symbolic but dangerous step that underscores the urgency of this story.
Amid this growing threat, Alaa chooses to stay on his land, with his family, and to keep playing soccer.
