In Penumbra, Tom, a battle-worn criminal bearing the weight of an irreparable past, finds himself in a fight for survival after a deal goes horribly wrong. Following a tense confrontation in an abandoned barn in the outskirts of Detroit, Tom is left wounded by a gunshot from an associate from a rival gang, named Jason. Jason disappears into the night, leaving Tom bleeding and alone, with only his will to survive pushing him forward. As Tom lays there, unable to decide what to do next and writhing in pain, he starts to wonder if he will be able to make it out of the barn alive. Then, suddenly he sees a shadow approaching him. Tom is startled to encounter his younger brother, Sam, who insists on driving him to the hospital.
