Tyler Thompson, haunted by the memory of his father’s death, isolates himself in his bedroom, surrounded by comic book sketches and memorabilia. As he reflects on the notion of becoming a superhero, he rejects calls from his mother and avoids confronting his grief.
When Tyler visits his best friend, Amelie-Rose, the two navigate a tense conversation about their relationship, his insecurities, and her recent romantic interests. After a failed attempt to ask her out, Tyler retreats to his rooftop to train, only to be taunted by a group of teens. His mood shifts when he receives a text from his estranged older brother, Duke, who’s come to visit.
Tyler reluctantly agrees to meet Duke, who brings a gift from their mother. While Tyler cleans, Duke snoops through his bedroom, discovering Tyler’s superhero sketches. Duke praises the work, suggesting Tyler add him as a character. The conversation turns to their father’s death, with Duke urging Tyler to reconnect with their mother. Tyler snaps at Duke. Telling him that if he were home instead of partying with his football team their father would still be alive. After the emotional exchange, Duke leaves, still unable to bridge the gap with his brother.
That night, Tyler dons his makeshift superhero costume and sets out to track down a crime duo. After a brutal fight, he is stabbed and left bleeding, to confront the ghosts of his past.
Back at home, Tyler answers a call from his mother for the first time in a year. She asks if he saw the surprise she left with the tin of cookies. As Tyler opens the gift, he finds an old drawing of a hero, one his father had created with him years ago. Overcome with emotion, Tyler finally agrees to come home, ready to begin the long process of healing with his family.
