Cananga is a short documentary that explores how the space in my grandfather’s backyard became a personification of his life as a seafarer and a reflection of his persona. In this intimate portrait, the space itself, Cananga, is the key to understanding my grandfather’s complex personality and his life story. Guided by the ballads by him composed, we discover not only his musical ability, but also the deep emotional connections that link the family to history, music and life at sea. A revelation of how a place can transcend the physical and become a connection between generations, a testament to the enduring strength of love, pain and music.
