Formats.mov, by Angel Tianying Yu, is a short 2D motion graphics film about a creature who feels plain and wants to be noticed. He goes on a journey in an imaginary subway, where each stop represents computer formats that are metaphors for each identity. As he tries to fit in with society’s standards, he realizes that changing himself doesn’t make him stand out. Everyone else is doing the same. The story discusses whether you should rather be yourself or society’s standard in the eyes of others.
