

Frank Ross, a plain-clothes detective, witnesses a suspicious scene while passing a house: a woman standing next to a lifeless body. Reacting swiftly, he enters the house with his gun drawn, only to find that, Maura Hope, a young women in the white lab coat, is examine the body.
Being the first detective to arrive at the scene, Frank decides to take this advantage. He takes charge of the case and begins examining the body. However, he patronizes Maura and dismisses her expertise. Maura quickly confronts Frank, highlighting his unprofessional behavior. During their examination, Frank discovers an earring, which he shows to Maura. Recognizing its significance, she instructs him to bag it as evidence.
As the sound of approaching sirens grows louder, Maura prepares to leave with the evidence they have collected. Desperate to solve the case first and claim credit, Frank begs Maura for any leads. However, she insists on waiting for the lab results before drawing any conclusions. Frank insists on being kept informed, and Maura reluctantly promises to send him the lab results once she receives them.
Shortly after Maura departs, another detective named Barry Adams arrives at the scene. Frank eagerly shares what he has discovered, only to be informed by Barry that the deceased woman is, in fact, Dr. Maura Hope, the real Medical Examiner. Frank realizes that his arrogance had clouded his judgment, allowing the killer to deceive him.
